Our Story on the Water

U.P. North Fishing Charters is a veteran-owned operation running a fully equipped Thunder Jet 210 Luxor Pro, based in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Each trip is built around safety, reliability, and delivering an authentic Great Lakes fishing experience.

Captain Jason’s Story

Captain Jason was raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula along the shores of Lake Superior, where fishing with his father became a lifelong passion. After high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and continued fishing wherever duty took him, from Florida and California to waterways around the world.

Following his military service, he returned home to the Upper Peninsula, focusing on trout and salmon fishing across Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. Determined to turn passion into profession, he spent years learning local waters and refining his skills.

His career later brought him to coastal regions near both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as well as rivers throughout the United States, further expanding his experience. In 2017, he earned his U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License as an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV/Six-Pack). After returning to the Upper Peninsula for his final assignment on the St. Marys River, he advanced to a 25-ton master license.

A Guide Who Cares About the Experience

Captain Jason finds the greatest reward in watching anglers feel the excitement of a screaming drag and the fight of a strong fish. While fish can never be guaranteed, every effort is made to put lines in productive waters.

What is guaranteed is fairness. If no fish are caught, the charter is fully refunded or rescheduled for a future date.
